Has quoting gone out of hand?

No, it is still fun. You are living in the dark ages.

Quoting

by Lucifer » Thu Jun 23, 2005 12:19 am

I think this quoting text has gone out of hand. It was fun initially when people did that but now I think there should be some kind of discretion used. I have stopped making an effort even to read posts where the nested quotes are beyond three or four in number.

I feel that people should only quote the most relevant recent part of the post, and only if they strictly need to.

Mods, can we have a guideline on this please?

I remember You Raising the Point once or Twice in the Past and I must say that It has Somewhat Reduced Since then. There are Few instances Scattered here and there but they are few and far in between.

IMHO,Quoting Indiscrminately Should be Done Away With. Most of the Times we see Users Wanting To Respond/Reply to what another Member had Posted Above (as a Reply to an Earlier Post) and NOT the Entire 'Set' of Messages in the Preceding Post. But What they End up with,is to 'Quote' the Entire Message. This Should be Done away with and The Only Way to Go about it is to Manually Select & Delete The Unwanted Portions of the Message in the 'Reply Box'.

But if this is not Done Correctly,We Have Incorrect Posts Which have Some Portions of the Message 'Outside' the Quotes. To Avoid this, the 'Preview' Button Should be Used more-Often than it is.

But Doing all this Requires Lotsa Patience and I Doubt that when All one Wants is to Reply,That Discretion Would be Observed!

i agree with you on this Luci, it is getting difficult to follow the posts when there are more nested quotes. I would like to request all to please minimise them to 3-4 nested quotes. I agree it is fun doing that( i did it once, cant remember which thread :D) but not fun reading

Lucifer, as an old member here you should know that Kumbkaran probably wakes up more easily than the mods of this site.
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response. There is not much that we can do about this - there are 300-400 posts here a day :), and we are looking at enhancing the moderator team. We'd like to request our members to follow some protocol to make the forums easy to use.

Found a neat Hack for the nested Quotes menace at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/974

Image

This hack prevents quotes inside of quotes by replacing all quotes but the last one by [..].

Worth Giving A Try.What Say Mods??

P.S:Spl. Thanks to Spamtaneous for the  :P

groups.google.com has the state-of-the-art quoting, if fullhyd.com has the tech prowess, they might consider imitating the same.
