How about change of "Hyderabad to "Bhagyanagar&quo

by Amigos » Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:00 am

Hello Friends,

There is a seemingly trend of name changing in our country to be renamed as it was Originally called.

As our city's History suggests that in 1586 Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutub Shahi dynasty founded a new city along the banks of river Musi for his ladylove, Bhagmati. The city was then called Bhagyanagar. Later when Bhagmati entered the royal family, she was honored with the title Hyder Mahal. And Bhagyanagar became Hyderabad.

Have your say guyz... !

Bhagyanagar or Bhagyanagaram

Anyways the difference with hyd is that the name is given by a Mughal emperor and not the British. Also the naming of hyd is done more than 400 years ago which is not the case with cities like Bangalore which were named in the 18 hundreds .

tryue and as a matter of factly as you have stated it was changed from Baghaya to Hyder during inception, origination. Why create a contoversy now.

Lets respect what the founder wanted it to be and Salute Sultan Quli Qutub Shah for giving us this wonderful city. The Ispahan of the East.

... LOL

The possiblility of hyd being renamed appears bleak as of now. But nothing can be guranteed about the chance of politicians trying to exploit the jingoism among the state population

We are already seeing one such attempt(succesful to an extent) by a certain dude who sports pink attire in public

"hyderabad" is not a colonial name like "bobmay", "bangalore" or "madras". it is the name given by the founder of the city. yes, the founder did name it bhagyanagar b4, but since he is the owner/founder its his prerogative to change the name....

so, HYDERABAD it shud be....

moreover "Bhagyanagar" sounds like the name of some suburb, not a metro city...
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

I concur with the opinion.

Also I dont get it when people pronounce the Ds as in David when they refer to Hyderabad. Its an easy give away when they claim they are from Hyderabad but actually are from somewhere else or the suburbs  and they think its cool

Its Hyderabad, pronounce Ds as in .. as in ... as in .... help, anyone?

Or since "sikander" is a corruption of the word "alexander" why not name it as "alexanderabad" ?

name changes suck man ! The core reason is that of racial insecurity. Hyderabadis are beyond all this rite ? 8)

Guys...

When Hyderabad was celebrating its 400 year ceremony, all the hoardings, were displayed, contained Quli Qutub Shah (the founder of Hyderabad) picture and his Shayr

Mera shaher logaan so mamoor kar

Ya' Rub Abad mera HYDERABAD kar

clearly showed that he named the city Hyderabad

BTW: remember the Aurangabad Court verding when one BJP-Shiv Sena was trying to rename the city, the court said: "Do some solid work, not renaming the cities.

DONT CHANGE HYDERABAD TO ANY NAME.

by Sameer Siddiqi » Sun May 31, 2009 12:06 pm

Dont try to change the name from Hyderabad to any name, by changing the name its changes complete identity of the city and its image.

Name Bhagyanagaram - its not suitable at all. Hyderabad is Hyderabad.

WHEN BOMBAY CAN BE CHANGED TO MUMBAI AND MADRAS TO CHENNAI, ETC, WHY NOT HYDERABAD ? BUT IT REQUIRES STRONG POLITICAL WILL OF SECULAR PARTIES. BECAUSE MUSLIM APEASING CONGRESS DOES NOT ALLOW THIS. IT'S TIME WE FORGET THE BAD HISTORY OF HYDERABAD AND GIVE IT A NEW NAME.
