Scholastic Aptitude Test. One has to give SAT if he aspires to do his undergraduate studies in US.

GRE/GMAT - For postgraduate studies in US.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language. the name says it all.

Moi givin GMAT soon. Like in 1-2 years time.

A little more detail on Johnny's explanation:

SAT: taken before high school [12th] graduation/score used to be out of 1600/changed to 2400? due to essay part

GRE: taken before undergrad [after12 +4] graduation/most and all major except LSAT/GMAT people

GMAT: same as GRE but tailored for people applying for MBA/a MUST for all business undergrads

LSAT: exam for getting into a law school [am debating on whether to take it] can be written by all majors but specifically taken by business/criminal justice majors

TOEFL: required by all international students/english equivalency test.

SAT

by Aman » Sun Aug 08, 2004 6:35 pm

hey desichick...... been a long time since your post but anyway.....

1. Improve your vocab, however good it already is! (How good is it?)

2. Familiarize yourself with the pattern until you know it THOROUGHLY

You should spend zero time doing that during the exam.

3. The math part is basically speed, though you might need to tease your brains for a few minutes over a few Qs.

4. Think a LOT before you answer each question in the critical reading section..... read the passage once, then the questions, then the passage again. Then answer. but be quick.

Anyway... the model of the paper is gonna change sometime this year... I think someone mentioned that earlier.

BTW, I gave the SAT in Jan 04, got a 1510

I don't think tuition will help much as this is a very 'personal' kinda exam. You gotta work at it yourself. I never worked much for school etc, but did work for this coz frankly, I enjoyed it!!

Normally Asians do better in Quant than in Verb, contrary to Americans. I say stick to your strengths, make sure you get 800 in quant (very practical with significant simulation tests and continual practice). This will ensure atleast 1000, but your score will then more likely be in the range of 1350-1450 with an average vocab and above 1500 with strong vocab. This is the approach I took for my GRE long time back and had expected/desired results.

Hey there.

i dont know if this has already been said or not...i didnt bother reading through all the replies :D.

But, there are new SAT's that are being dist. and word has it they are a little harder. i lucked out from having to take them since the last time i took it was the last time they ever had the old ones. :)

on the old ones however i used princeton review sat books. if you have absolutely no experience with mulitple choice or comprehension then ur in for a surprise-and princeton really is the thing for you. they use baby examples and step by step procedures. and it really helps. sometimes its almost a joke how simple they make it look.

Personal note: we indians are far too intelligent to let the SAT bomb us!! you'll do fine :D and good luck.

meh.. dont generalize too much

it totally depends on what your style of learning and how motivated you are.

and just remember if u did really badly on the SAT I, doesnt matter too much - just compensate on the IIs

i used barrons and collegeboard - did every problem in the books and i increased from a 1750 to 2160..

also, the ACT is freakishly easy.. i woke up and took it - no prepping

got a 33/36

good luck with your aspirations.

Yeah, like many of the sites Dictionary.com also has a word of the day. But check out wordsmith.org and you will know the difference.
