Didn't pay a penny..

I came to India twice but didn't pay a penny to custom officers. All I did was know the rules and follow them. ( We always do that abroad why can't we do the same in our Mother Land )

When first time I landed in Mumbai Airport... I was carrying a DVD player.

Below is the conversation between Customs office and me.

Customs Officer: How much it costs.

I : $79.99

CO: impossible you can't get a DVD player for that price

I: If you want you can pay that money to me to own it

CO: No Reply.. behaved as if he didn't listen what I am saying

I: Pulled the Recipt from my Bag and showed it to CO.

this conversation ended when other custom officers found a Office Laptop in my Bag. Everyone rushed there :-) .. and I passed my hands into my bag and took out a office letter which states that laptop is the property of the company :-(

Finally they endeded up with nothing...

So, guys try to follow the rules as much as possible.

If the CO's ask for Rs 2,000/- just pay it don't bargain for Rs500/- and pay him cash.

just ask them why we have to pay Rs 2,000/-. It's better to pay Rs 2,000 than Rs 500.00

I would just go with the flow and bribe 'em then, and alert the higer authorities. If we start doing this, I believe that there should be a reduction in bribe-culture.
