Andhra Boys and Girls

How to be safe abroad

(The writer has lived 8 years in Chicago and LA)

Like all of us were disturbed past few months ago with the frequent incidents of murders and unsolved cases of homicides and assaults against Andhra boys and girls in the US.
Thank god this has stopped now and this board may sound irrelevant at the moment at the same time we are facing similar but different situation in Australia.

What I like to do here is give few simple tips to protect you especially for the US candidates.

• If you are a nerdy software engineering student and invest 4-5 years in college then learn self defense techniques at least 4-5 months before you proceed to US for higher education or work.
• This should include basic karate / handling knives / handling guns and revolvers.
• If you are directly going from AP rural areas to the US then your mind is not capable of understanding the routine lifestyle there, I mean you will not be able to feel the criminal atmosphere and the nuts that roam around to catch innocent guys like you.
• Before you land in the US watch lot of CNN and local FOX news to familiarize with the current affairs there, watch movies like monster and silence of the lambs, good fellas – this is real America.
• Most of the time attacks happen for the sake of money or cash as these nuts are on drugs (stoned) all the time they don’t care whom they are attacking or they cannot figure out the extent of injury they are causing just to get 20 dollar.
• Normally the attacks happen on a person when he or she is alone or just going by yourself to the super market or you are walking to your Dom or walking to your classes.
• So while you are still new arrival do not try to go anywhere alone especially night hours.
• If you go to super market watch 10 times before you park your car, chose a slot near the security person so that you are visible to him. Normally things happen when you are coming in or out of your car.
• As far as your mental attitude you should sound very confident and speak in a very loud and clear voice with Americans never try to speak politely unnecessarily to anyone no matter who they are.
• Normally American people are very nice but NUTS like columbine or Virginia tech can surface without any warning anytime, when I used to live in LA there were several cases of post office workers coming back to shoot their coworkers or bosses after they were fired from the job. (This is in the 1993-94) not to mention the drive-by shootings and the gang warfare that was going on during those days, we used to see people get shot many times, and during the same time the Rodney King riots happened in LA.
• Also one most important thing is that be in touch with your relatives and senior friends who are in the US for many years they can take care of you better than anyone they can guide you how to be safe, how to get SS card, how to get drivers license, bank account and so on.

Hope this will help you, take care, all the best !!!

South Carolina Town Lives in Fear While Deputies Search for Killer of 5
A small South Carolina town is being terrorized by a serial killer who is, "very capable of killing again."
"There is fear in this community," Gaffney, S.C. City Administrator James Taylor told FOX News Monday.
He said police are "working very hard to chase down all leads" to find the man they believe killed five people in a week, and encouraged people to be aware of their surrounds.
"Lock your doors, do not allow strangers to come in, call and check on relatives and friends," Taylor told FOX of the advice he is giving residents. "Just be watchful and report anything you see."

July 29, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A total of 15 people were shot in Chicago on the city's South and West sides late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
That number includes seven people - all men - who were shot at Homan and Walnut on the city's West Side.
All the victims in that incident were found within a half block of a neighborhood convenience store in Chicago's Garfield Park neighborhood. Police are not saying what role the store may have played in the shooting, although early reports indicated the gunfire actually erupted outside.
As the lead flew, people ran. Police found one of the gunshot victims collapsed in an aisle of the store. Others were scattered up and down the block.
Two teens are among the seven recovering from gunshot wounds. They are 15 and 16 years old. Two of the wounded were in critical condition, four were in stable condition and one was in good condition.
Police are not ready to talk publicly about what may have led up to the gunfire. They are also continuing their search for the shooter.
In a separate incident, a 25-year-old woman is recovering after she was shot at 64th and King Drive Tuesday night. She was standing and talking to her friends when she was shot by three men.

i just hope i am not sounding like a cnn reporter here...

Fox News 19 Aug, 09

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Alonzo Heyward carried a rifle around his low-rent neighborhood one day last month, ranting about suicide and ignoring the pleas of friends for hours before six Chattanooga police officers surrounded him on his front porch and decided it had to end.

His father says Heyward told the officers, "I'm not out here to hurt anybody."

But the police, who tried unsuccessfully to disarm Heyward, fired 59 rounds to kill him on July 18. The medical examiner found 43 bullet wounds in his chest, face, arms, hands, legs, buttocks and groin. Police contend Heyward was a danger to others and threatened the six officers.

Chattanooga police spokeswoman Jerri Weary described the case as "suicide by cop."

As questions continue to surround the shooting, Heyward's family and civil rights leaders take issue with the police response.

"We have a large concern about the amount of shots fired," said Valoria Armstrong, president of the NAACP branch in Chattanooga.

Heyward, a 32-year-old moving company employee, was black. The six officers are white.
