hi. dont know if I am posting in the wrong thread. but wanted to tell this anyway. you can also try :P

btw I always wondered why they write thank-q or than-q or tan-q or thenk-q or some other shit for writing thank-you. Isnt it some kind of old fad which is definitely not cool anymore ? Anyway, when you get a situation where the other person seemingly shows off as helping you but in effect is actually bitching upon you. But you have to be polite to him to be socially correct.. (For example, when some uncle is suggesting marriage alliances for you to your parents) Instead of telling thank-you, what some of my friends invented is telling it as if you have got a sore throat and dry cough. Then "thank-you" sounds a little like "dheng-you" or if you are really a master you can make it sound like "dengu" :D

Poet Who Loves To Churn The Mind : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

* Ever wondered how much creativity goes into making a good film? It may be just another family drama or running around the trees as romantic thrillers....but a good end-product is the culmination of many creative talents and ideas. However, when it comes to songs, lyrics are the single lifeline for survival.

# One such life support lyricist is Sirivennella Sitarama Sastry. The name rings a bell? Well, just go back in time and glean the five best films you may have seen in the last decade and K. Vishwanath's cinemagic will pop up, and with it the lyricist's contribution to this expression will come to you in poetic deluge!

# Poetry has been in his bloodstream right from childhood. He found himself most comfortable amidst the crescendos and rhythm of poesy. It was one such a flight that gave birth to an award-winning masterpiece on the national spirit in 1971 on the occasion of the silver jubilee of India's Independence. That day, 15-year-old lad had arrived as a poet. But this spiritual aspirant has had a chequered career. His scholastic father's knowledge of homeopathy and mathematics and grasp of Persian, Urdu and Sanskrit rubbed off very early on him. During his early days in Kakinada, he found a ready circle of fans and admirers flocking around him just to listen to those pearls of wisdom from his mouth. Free verses started pouring and he soon found it difficult to shut out the stirrings of his heart. As if from some ethereal source, the thoughts and words would flood his mind, and in a trice the poet would sing aloud much to the glee of the gathering. Goaded by C.V.Krishna Rao (then managing director of tribal projects), Sastry began to write commercially under the penname 'Bharani' (incidentally his nakshatram).

*****
Soon rhyme and beat got into his poems and his renderings meandered into soulful expressions of eternal search. In the early 1980's Sastry saw the epic film, 'Sankarabharanam', and this exposure to a great theme remained etched in his soul. He wrote a poem entitled 'Gangavataram' to personify the classic features of the river Ganga. In this expression, he extols Vishwanth and compares him to Lord Siva who holds the Ganga in control on His head, lest she drowns and destroys all on her way. This 'Sankarabharanam' was a reflection of the Lord in His elements. This poem would have died a natural and unsung death in the poetic circles of Kakinada, but a fortunate combination of circumstances that brought Vishwanath to the port town and to add to it all the boys who sang the prayer at the felicitation function chose 'Gangavataram'. Little did the director know that the song was a tribute to him. Something tugged at his heart and he enquired about the lyricist. At this time, Sastry was quite oblivious of what was going on. The search for poet 'Bharani' began and this led to the first meeting of the two great minds. Highly impressed, Vishwanath offered Sastry the opportunity in his next venture, 'Sirivennella'. The rest is history.

KANYASULKAM ... Telug ... English ... Movie!

by HH » Sun Jun 26, 2005 3:44 pm

Image Image

KANYASULKAM ... English Translators - Prof. C. Vijayasree and Dr.T.Vijay Kumar. Prof. Vijayasree teaches at Osmania University College for Women, Koti and Dr. Vijay Kumar is an associate Professor at Nizam College. "Kanyasulkam is a cult text of modern Telugu literature, it is also its first critique of modernity. This kind of a situation is rare in literary history," says Vijayasree.

A HUNDRED and ten years old, KANYASULKAM is still the best play in Telugu. The social evil of `kanyasulkam' (bride-price, in order to facilitate old men marry very young girls), to combat which it was expressly written, has been long extinct, but the play refuses to get dated. Its humour will instantaneously have you in splits, its sharp characterisation, the ingenuity of its plot and the bite of its satire can only mesmerise you. Generations of readers and viewers have been bowled over by it. Phrases and lines from it have become an indistinguishable part of the language.

It is difficult to sketch what Kanyasulkam is about in a few words. From its first version, which was narrowly focused on `Brahmin sulka marriages', it grew over a period of 15 years into a virtual encyclopaedic portrayal of a particular late 19th century North Andhra socio-cultural complex. So you have the anti- nautch and widow remarriage questions, the conflict between English education and traditional learning, the deceit and skulduggery practised in the institutions of police, judiciary, administration and education, the entrenched orthodoxies of caste, custom and superstition, the use and abuse of reform, and so on, all done with great panache and accuracy.

Telangana Blocks

Telangana Blocks ...

* TRS Still Waiting, Cong Leaders Call For Rayalaseema

# There is bad news for Telangana Rashtra Samiti leader and Labour Minister K. Chandrashekara Rao.

A group of Congress leaders have called for a Rayalaseema state in Andhra Pradesh, likely to complicate his demand for Telangana.

# Besides a separate state, they sought a package of Rs 50,000 crore for the development of the area. In case statehood was denied, the team called for a second state capital in the area, besides a high court bench, IT parks, super-speciality hospitals and industries.

** Most UPA Partners Back Telangana: Rao

# As many as 20 of 24 UPA partners have backed the demand for the formation of the separate state of Telangana, according to Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief and Labour Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao.

# Only two parties —— CPI(M) and RSP —— have informed the UPA ministerial group headed by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee that they are against the demand, said Rao. Two parties —— the CPI and the Hyderabad-based Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) —— have taken a neutral stand. Rao felt that he expected support from most opposition parties as well.

Tikkavarapu Pattabhirama Reddy

by HH » Tue Jul 05, 2005 6:27 pm

Image

Tikkavarapu Pattabhirama Reddy

* Tikkavarapu Pattabhirama Reddy burst on the Telugu literary scene 63 years ago with `Fidelu Raagala Dozen'. Settled in Bangalore, he has contributed enormously to the intellectual and cultural scene in Karnataka. His plans of making a film on the myth of Savitri with Tabu and Rahul Dev in the lead proves that the creative spark continues to burn bright ...
IT IS difficult to connect this serene, tall, old man speaking in soft, low tones with Pattabhi, who burst on the Telugu literary scene 63 years ago with a slender volume of 12 strange poems that seemed to have broken every rule and convention of "proper" poetic expression.

Its youthful mockery and unbounded defiance perplexed everyone. Buffoonery, egoism and sex were all part of his arsenal. And the twenty-year-old who delivered this decisive punch at a time when the predominantly syrupy, sentimental neo-romantic poetry (bhava kavitvam) was prevalent, was not even aware of the storm he had created.

He pursued a girl (on the pretext of business and studies) all the way to the U.S. He did not get her and was stranded for a long time due to the war. And then he gradually moved away from the Telugu literary field.

Today few people in Andhra know about Fidelu Raagala Dozen (1939). Fewer still know that the man lives in Bangalore and is as creative now at 83 as he was at 20. Or that Tikkavarapu Pattabhirama Reddy and his family have contributed enormously to the intellectual and cultural scene in Karnataka, including Kannada parallel cinema. Their house on St. Marks Road in Bangalore continues to be a hub for intellectuals and artistes. ...

# Fidelu Raagala Dozen - the title means a dozen ragas played on the fiddle (violin), or, as you will see, a dozen of those noisy ones born to the guy Raga and the gal Fiddle - makes an ambitious claim for a new world of east-west synthesis (the violin, a western musical instrument, has been adopted so well for Indian music).

The city that is described memorably in Fidelu is Madras, the only real Metro in South India then. But the seeds for the work were sown in distant Shantiniketan. Like many rich young men of his time, Pattabhi too went to Tagore's university, but soon quit rebelling against its "high romantic atmosphere."

Service With a Smile ... VIJAY VEMULAPALLI

by HH » Sat Aug 27, 2005 11:48 am

Service With a Smile - VIJAY VEMULAPALLI

A serene smile and a philosophy of service is what characterize VIJAY VEMULAPALLI. What’s more, it is making a difference in the lives of the thousands of destitute children who need help the most.

It takes a special person to keep the welfare of India’s impoverished children uppermost in mind, even while living in an affluent America. Vijay Vemulapalli is just that kind of a person. Is it any wonder that he has been the chief coordinator in Atlanta for Vibha, Inc. (previously, CRY, Inc.), an organization dedicated to the welfare of underprivileged children in India?

Having had a blessed childhood himself, growing up in a middle-class household in the town of Vuyyuru near Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Vijay has made it his mission to try and give the same to as many children as he can. In an India that has more than its fair share of disadvantaged children ? poor, unclad, homeless, hungry and worse ? this is no small undertaking.

As one who grew up playing street games such as “Yedu Rallu Aata” (game of seven stones), he knows that it is a sign of a normal childhood that is denied to many children who are bounded in labor if not simply loitering around as street urchins looking for their next meal.

Driven as he was, Vijay pursued his graduation at REC (Regional Engineering College) Durgapur and post graduate studies at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur and Mumbai where he received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 1992. The same year he followed his wife Madhuri to the U.S. where she was to complete her Masters degree.

While Madhuri successfully completed her MS. in Computer Science, he faced a challenge: his narrow niche in water resources management, a specialty branch of civil engineering, made it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find a suitable job. Not to be daunted, he reengineered himself and earned a M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Tuscaloosa in Alabama in 1995.

After graduation, they moved to Atlanta. Today he is the proud father of Divya, his two-year-old daughter. He has remained in the Software Development profession since 1995 and is currently employed with Alltel as a consultant. Recipient of many community awards such as from the Indian Professionals Network, The Gandhi Foundation and the Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta, Vijay has made a place for himself amongst the respected notables of the Indian American community in Georgia.

Happy Telugu eMarriage ...

I am Venu, working as a System Administrator in a world's 1st largest contract manufacturer. When I thought it's time for the BIG event in my life, there were few options for me to choose my soulmate. Being a computer professional, the best option was to look for one in the internet. But these days it has become a costly affair too. At that point of time, I was suggested by one of my close friends about Telugumatrimony.com . I am a person who doesn't skip anything without giving a try. So I checked it out and found that it's quite affordable to contact people in this site. After registering as a paid member, I was browing thru the profiles and found the most beautiful girl of my life. With God's willing, and of both of our parents acceptance, we got engaged in 6th May 2002 and the marriage is scheduled for 31st Aug 2002 at 3:15am. I really think Telugumatrimony is one of the better choices for today's hitech world for our traditional style of match making. Thank you very much.

Telangana.com ... For Development of Telangana Region ...

Telangana region is part of Andhra Pradesh state in southern India. It constitutes Hyderabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahaboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, RangaReddy and Warangal districts. Telangana region is one of the least developed regions in India. Rampant poverty, illiteracy, malnourished children, child labor, farmer suicides, unemployment, water scarcity and electricity shortage are some of the problems of this region. There are millions of people who are not fortunate enough to send their children to schools or feed their children three time a day, or provide safe drinking water to their families in this area.

We, Telangana.com, wish to have development of Telangana region on par with other parts of the state.

* Voluntary service Institutions, Agencies and People are requested to come up with Development Plans & Proposals to develop the areas in Telangana region.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi plunges into fresh crisis

HYDERABAD: The joy in Telangana Rashtra Samithi over the return of expelled MLA S. Santosh Reddy to the party fold proved to be short-lived as eight other legislators plunged the party into fresh crisis by sending an `open letter' to party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. They, in unequivocal terms, demanded his response publicly to the issues raised in it.

The eight MLAs, including five from Warangal and Medak who had revolted against the leadership even as Mr. Santosh Reddy's expulsion was hanging fire, met here on Saturday to discuss their strategy.

"He was the man who got all the Telugu Desam Party legislators firmly behind Chandrababu Naidu when he staged a coup against Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and grabbed the top job in Andhra Pradesh.

K Chandrasekhar Rao was a minister in the NTR government, and after the coup became an important member of the Chandrababu cabinet.

Three years ago he walked out of the TDP and formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. As head of the TRS, Rao lost no time in seizing upon the sporadic 30-year old movement for a separate Telangana state as his own and brought it centrestage. ..."

Telanagana ... View-Point ...

I belong to Telanagan and I am for a seperate Telangana State. Contrary to what some idiots posted here, Telangana never fought for a united Andhra, seperated from Madras state. In fact it was never part of Madras State but was part of Nizam. SRC (State Reorganizing committee) in fact recommneded for a separate state of Telangana as back as 1953 immediately after the annexation of Nizam into Indian union. It was only because of Coastal Andhras demand for a unified state based on Telugu languaget that Telenagana became part of AP state. If people from Andhra think that Telangana is backward, why do they have problems letting it go. If you look closely, Andhra has fertile lands but the water flows from Telangana. Entire coal is mined in telanagana but power generated is distributed more to Andhra than Telangana Entire region of Telanagana had just one enginering college and medical college excluding Hyderabad, when compared to the numerous in Andhra until recently. Out of the 12 lakh government jobs, Telangana got only 2 lakh jobs. Out of 14 lack hectares of Agriculture land developed in AP, only about 2 lakh hectares are irrigated in Telanaga. In spite of Krishna, Godhavari rivers flowing through Telangana, less than 25% of water is used in Telangana region for irrigation and drinking water. Telangana has more land and disctricts than Andhra, yet the distribution of resources has been more favourable to Andhra. In short Andhra depends on Telengana for its survival and not the other way round. Bottomline....even though Andhra is more developed the state of Andhra Pradesh has more revenue base in Telangana than in Coastal Andhra. I rest my case.

THE BATHUKAMMA Panduga

THE BATHUKAMMA Panduga
THE BATHUKAMMA Panduga is one of the most unique festivals of Telangana and one celebrated mainly by the women of this region. Celebrated during Navarathri it honours the `life-giver' Bathukamma, with women seeking her blessings for prosperity and a good year. Colours, flowers and water are all intrinsic to the festival; and the goddess herself is not one rooted in a shrine but made of flowers that signify both life and eternity in their colours as well as impermanence. For, the goddess is `created' each year, and immersed duly on the 10th day of the festival in local water bodies.
