Fresh Fish in Hyderabad

What's the place to buy fresh fish in Hyderabad?

What the are different fish available in Hyderabad.

Also what the local names for different fish.



I ate Koramenu in Grandma's Back to Basics.

I was looking around for what's the local name - some

websites say that Eel is Koramenu, others say that

Red Snapper is Koramenu - so what is it actually?



Also, I heard that many restaurants get their

fish delivered from Chennai because many of the

fish aren't locally available - so is it possible for the

common man to buy fish which is delivered from other

places?



I am particularly looking for Pompfret, Ladyfish,

Sardine, Mackerels, Prawns, Crab etc. Also what

are the local names for these fish?

I think there is a huge fish market in ameerpet or thereabouts where you can buy fresh live fish. Other than that there will be vendors on bicycles selling fish, they bring fish right to your door step and even clean and cut it.

I dunno names of the fish, but I think pompfret is available in Hyderabad but good quality prawns are either not available or are expensive.

there is a wholesale fish market near Sitaphalmandi in secbad, but u have to be there by sunrise to get the fresh stock.



or try "Sagar Fisheries" at the lower tankbund road. its there below the flyover at the entrance to a lane.



...i also heard there is a fish market at Kondapur near Madhapur.



abt the names/varieties of fish, sorry i dunno...i have only seen the cooked end-products

Ah well, prawns are pretty good and cheap in hyderabad...or maybe I am comparing it to other cities where it is costlier...



As Mayavi says, Ameerpet market is a good source of live fish...but not sure of local names, pomphret and prawns are known by the same names...

I must say that I had fish in Kolkata. It was only at one of the cheap restaurants that us karatekas could afford, but it was FABULOUS.



So Betty, don't forget me when u do giv the fish phesht.



As for the varieties, you get good King prawns in Ameerrpet and also lip smacking katarna, imported from Mumbai of corzz .

where is the fish market in sitaphalmandi? ? is it a market or a shop ?? i am a almosst daily fish eater. so kindly let me know where i will get cheap but fresh sea water fish in Secunderabad area(tarnaka,sitaphalmandi,SD road, near Secunderabad station)
