Top 5 best telugu films of all time

by Aishwarya » Sun Apr 30, 2006 5:46 pm

What according to you are the top 5 best telugu films of all time?

Here are mine:

1. Swarnakamalam (Have been watching it on an average 0.3 times a day for past 18 years!!!)

2. Ahanapellanta (Some of the best performamnces by Bhrahmanandam, Kota, Rajendra Prasad, Nootan Prasad, Veerabhadra Rao)

3. Tagore (Chiranjeevi has always been one the best actors of Indian Cinema and this was one his best performances, others include rudraveena and swayamkrishi. The story and the concept are very good)

4. Kshana Kshanam (Sridevi was gorgeous and Venkatesh (Sigh!!) as hot as ever. But the best was Paresh Raawal and his entire dialogue delivery. Needless to say Verma proved himself as one of the best directors around)

5. Roja (Great music, great performances, but above all, great story and awesome direction!)

Others include movies like Amrutha, Shankarabharnam, Mayabazaar, Jagadekaveerudu Atilok Sundari (time pass!!), Mooga Manasulu, Anajali and many more.

I would not know about Telugu movies, as I still cannot deifferentiate between Telugu/Malayalam. :?

I guess anything starring NTR, Kamal Hassan, Prabhu, Venkatesh, Chiru, Rajni, Trisha ( ) would rate high in my list.

I like all the movies in your list except Tagore. I haven't watched it but I am sure it wont be in my top 5 list. Some of my favourites:

1. Mutyala Muggu - Bapu ^:)^

2. Devadas - Nageshwar rao ^:)^

3. Nuvvu naaku Nacchav - I hate venkatesh but I love this movie.

4. Shiva

5. Mayabazar - All time best telugu movie ^:)^

and Gundamma katha and Narthana Sala and Pathala bhiravi and any 'pauranikam' which has NTR and S.V.Ranga Rao.

How come you liked nuvvu naaku nachcevu? I esp liked that one comedy track by Bhrahmanandam...

I know someone else who likes it and I completely fail to understand howcome it features in the top 5! It is probabkly a decent movie... but I didnt quite find it so good to be on the likes of Ahanapellanta or Swarnakamalam and other movies you mentioned.

i like that movie too...

altho; i wasn't a fan of venkatesh..this movie had some genuine situational humore... as opposed to"cheesy:" or "tasteless"...

the movie was a natural attempt to stand out on its own...comedy..

i think venkatesh's character in that movie..woul pertain to a lot of us...

in real life.

Bottom line... a good movie..

juust like..... Santosham.

am a bramhin boy..and i'am nuetral and global..

everybody is the same to me...smartzaazz..

That list is not my top 5. Its just one of my favourites and there are so many good ol telugu movies that I can't pick 5 among them. I haven't watched many movies growing up except those on TV and thats the reason why I like all old movies. I do not like the quality of telugu movies being made these days but for somereason I like Nuvvu Naaku Nacchav... its just so funny even if all the songs have been copied from robert miles. Manmadhudu is also good but it has way too much in common with What women want.

One movie I forgot to add to my list of favourites is 'Aithe'. Its one of the best* movies ever made in telugu.

* Excluding Balakrishan movies which are always 'soperu andi'

my faves listed below are purely based on their "paisa vasool" nature and is a "Top 10" rather than a "Top 5".

Shiva (Nags)

Nirnayam (Nags)

Rakshana (Nags)

Gharana Mogudu (Chiru)

Aha! Naa Pellanta! (Rajendraprasad)

Tagore (Chiru)

Narasimha Naidu (NBK)

Khushi (PavanK)

Kshana Kshanam (Venky)

Ankusam (Dr. garu)

Too many to post. I speak more Hindi than Telugu but like Telugu movies more. And movie for movie, Telugu movies beat Hindi ones in quality and entertainment.

I realise that it is easier to come up with top five best telugu films rather than top five worst telugu films. So lets make our lives harder but trying to come up with the worst telugu films of all time... need some time to think about it myself. I leave it more creative people to come up with the list.

I dont understand (not surprised though !) seeing Tagore in a couple of top 5 lists. I thought it was a load of trash..phony and amateurish.. I once asked a friend who rates Tagore as one of the top 3 telugu films of all times the reasons for his choice and other than chirus dances he points me to the scene where chiru reels out a long list of stats and data pertaining to the state of A.P. That according to him is a stroke of genius.

Huh.. Is that what great cinema is all about?
