Tribute to the one who died young

by Arun » Wed Apr 21, 2004 6:24 pm

[Courtesy: Nisha]

This is the End…” intoned the ruggedly handsome young man in jeans that looked as if it had never been washed since he was 12. The hauntingly eerie baritone seemed as velvet as the midnight sky…and as void…the stars, if there were any, shone as black holes in his eyes. Reminded one of other words “Waste and void. Waste and void. And darkness on the face of the deep.”

Jim Morrison. The Lizard King. The American Poet. Dead as stone. Or stoned dead? One wonders.

Yet the raw power of his words and poetry are magnified in its meaninglessness (?), a sense of pathos, a despair of a desperate generation and its violence dripped to his metal strings as a fitting requiem to the lost generation of his time.

He was his own idol and he believed deeply…lived (or rather, in his words “Wandered in a hopeless night”), doubted, only sure of death (his?). A morbid fixation that pervaded in all his writings, an imagery of the grinning death - skull, of mindless violence and sex. His poems explore the philosophies of Joyce, Artaud and Freud … ‘The End’ elaborates the Oedipus complex, and patricide. Meaningless, you think?

The music and thoughts of The Doors (the name inspired by one of Blake’s verses) are a stream of unconsciousness, a dream sequence enmeshed in the worst of all your nightmares…a spirit of recklessness and suicidal tendencies seep through the words to the spaces between the lines, engulfing everything, leaving no breathing space between screams, lyrics, music… the silence is soaked with evil, it leaves one gasping.

Jim Morrison. The Enigma. The attention-seeker oblivious to the crowd. A paradox. Enter onstage. Hate spews out of him as he caresses the mike. Yet the crowd sees just him and the rest of The Doors is a shadow in the light of Morrison’s darkness.

The poetry.

Let us swim to the moon
Let us climb through the tide,
Penetrate the evening
That the city sleeps to hide.

Evocative in its imagery. And as always, a shadow, a portent of a sudden fall and death. An alcoholic who got drunk on anything and everything died a death enhancing the mystery that was Jim Morrison. A troubled soul, who referred to his slow suicide as capitulation (to what?), refused to belong to an older generation, preferring to join the legion of devils that preyed on his mind. And the mournful intonation “This is The End” goes on and on, following this angel of death, this “Rider of the Storm”.

To Nisha

by Satish » Thu Apr 22, 2004 11:03 am

What philosophy did Joyce profess?

Isn't Jim Morrison a replica of Jean Paul Sartre?

 Kafka's Trial and Camus' Fall

Is it Nauseum, Nisha?

this is another song i really liked esp. for the lyrics..

Lost Control by Anathema

Life.. has betrayed me once again

I accept that some things will never change.

I've let your tiny minds magnify my agony

and it's left me with a chemical dependency for sanity.

Yes, I am falling... how much longer 'till I hit the ground?

I can't tell you why I'm breaking down.

Do you wonder why I prefer to be alone?

Have I really lost control?

I'm coming to an end,

I've realized what I could have been.

I can't sleep so I take a breath and hide behind my bravest mask,

I admit I've lost control

Lost control...

My Fav one:

A hundred days had made me older since the last time that I saw your pretty face

A thousand lights had made me colder and I don’t think I can look at this the same

But all the miles had separate

They disappeared now when I’m dreaming of your face

I’m here without you baby but your still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time

I’m here without you baby but your still with me in my dreams

And tonight it’s only you and me

The miles just keep rolling as the people either way to say hello

I hear this life is overrated but I hope it gets better as we go

I’m here without you baby but your still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time

I’m here without you baby but your still with me in my dreams

Also their lead singer has the tendancy to look at the ceiling while singing. Kinda irritating.

One advice to u wizzy (from a fan), i would be nice if you could lose hose glasses and have "the look" in your eyes for a few of your songs.

adrifting from where u guys are::

by The Crackednut » Sun May 02, 2004 12:27 am

hmm... since this post was orginally intended for poetry, let me post this bit and leave the rest to ponder::

Fly

Kiss in a breath of blue
Believe in a light that’s true

Fight till the walls fall down
Shout through that happy frown

Move to a world far away
Sing to the birth of a new day

Laugh at the angry seas
Sleep in the sunny breeze

Crack this frame of Life
Speak with a pen and a knife

Think deep about the lazy scream
Fly back into another dream.

ps:: .... and that's mine!
