Days Gone by

by mAnOmAn » Mon Jun 05, 2006 8:03 pm

This was written by someone in a very expressive way , I hope everyone remembers there school or college days the same way .

Gone are the days...

When the school reopened in June,

And we settled in our new desks and benches.

When we queued up in book depot,

And got our new books and notes.

When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays, yet

Managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.

We learnt writing with slates and pencils, and

Progressed To fountain pens and ball pens and then
micro tips.

We began drawing with crayons and evolved to

Colour pencils and finally sketch pens.

We started calculating first with tables and then
with

Clarke's tables and advanced to calculators and
computers.

When we chased one another in the corridors in

Intervals, and returned to the classrooms
drenched in sweat.

When we had lunch in classrooms, corridors,

Playgrounds, under the trees and even in cycle shed.

When all the colors in the world,

Decorated the campus on the Second Saturdays.

When a single P.T. period in the week's Time Table,

Was awaited more eagerly than the monsoons.

When cricket was played with writing pads as bats,

And Neckties and socks rolled into balls.

When few played "kabadi" and "Kho-Kho" in scorching sun,

While others simply played "book cricket" in the confines of
classroom.

Of fights but no conspiracies,

Of Competitions but seldom jealousy.

When we used to watch Live Cricket telecast,

In the opposite house in Intervals and Lunch breaks.

When few rushed at 1:45 to "Conquer" window seats in our School bus.

While few others had "Big Fun", "Chock-o-bar","kulfi ice" and "Pepsi"
at 2:00 Clock.

Gone are the days Of Sports Day, and the annual School Day,

And the one-month long preparations for them.

Gone are the days Of the stressful Quarterly,

Half Yearly and Annual Exams, And the most enjoyed holidays after
them.

Of tenth and twelfth standards, when we Spent almost the whole year
writing revision tests.

We learnt, we enjoyed, we played, we won, we lost,

We laughed, we cried, we fought, we thought.

With so much fun in them, so many friends,

So much experience, all this and more.

Gone are the days when we used to talk for hours with our friends.

Now we don't have time to say a HI.

Gone are the days when we played games on the road.

Now we code on the road with laptop.

Gone are the days when we saw stars shining at night.

Now we see stars when our code doesn't work.

Gone are the days when we sat to chat with friends on grounds.

Now we chat in chat rooms.....

Gone are the days where we studied just to pass.

Now we study to save our job

Gone are the days where we had no money in our pockets

and fun filled on our hearts

Now we have the atm as well as credit card but with an empty heart

Gone are the days where we shouted on the road.

Now we don t shout even at home

Gone are the days where we got lectures from all.

Now we give lectures to all... like the one I'm doing now....

Gone are the days

But not the memories, which will be

Lingering in our hearts for ever and ever and Ever and ever and
Ever.....

NO MATTER HOW BUSY YOU ARE,

DONT FORGET TO LIVE THE LIFE THAT STILL EXISTS.

IT WONT BE THERE FOR EVER.
There is a wrong way of doing things, there is a right way of doing things and there is MY way ........

Gosh - I thought all this happened only in my school. BTW, which school are you from? One that used to be in Shanti Nagar by any chance?

Good one buddy...

Gone are the days when we used to bunk school to watch a game of cricket.

Gone are the days we used to blush when we were kids at the mention of the word 'love' .

Gone are the days when we used to copy home work to keep up with others.

Gone are the days when we used to 'combine study'

Gone are the days when you used to be exited about your first cycle, later, yamaha or Maruti or Gypsy

Gone are the days when we used to quench our thirst in summer with a Sugar cane drink or

Gone are the days when we used to eat little samosas during intervals at a local movie theater..

Gone are the kite flying days for ugadi.

My gone list is endless....

Life just changes..better for some ...worse for some...

its all good though.
Prose for hos!

Things are not the same all the time. There is an expiry date for everything. Its the same with the human life too. Gone are the days, but the memories remain all along.

Thanx Manoman For reminding me of those days

Everything back in school had its own charm. Be it having silly fights over trivial issues, the gratitude we had for the teaching fraternity, the frequent yawning in the history and geography lectures, the deliberate losing of the composition books, the endless requests to go to the washroom in the drawing lectures, the scandals that would be created if a boy and a girl conversed for more than a few minutes, the bitching about the ‘red house’ […and I was in the ‘blue house’], the inter-house fights, the inter-class fights, the ‘Teacher’s day’ celebrations, the ‘annual day’ celebrations, the ‘sports day’, the innumerable number of competitions that we had to keep ourselves away from the routine, the vehement trials to convince the teacher why you deserved one or even half a mark more than what she has given you, the joys of sitting on the last bench, the excitement and joy of getting a lecture off, the interval period [The concentration in the lecture before the break would always waver due to the wait to hear the bell ring. The break brought respite to all kinds, to the gluttons, to the ones who have forgotten to do their home work, to the gossipers to complete their daily quota of gossip], the ogling of guys over girls who wore short uniforms, the seemingly endless wait for boring lectures to end and the list just goes on and on………..

School had all the possible species one can think of. The ‘book worms’ who believed that their sole aim in life was to memorize every word given in the book, the ‘notorious masters’ who believed that their sole purpose of coming to school was to either trouble teachers or to trouble the ‘book worms’, the ‘silent brigade’ who believed in listening to and even following all the instructions teachers gave [you could always find this kind on the first benches], the ‘gossip mongers’ who could gossip on anything ranging from who is going around with whom to the number of saris each teacher of the school had and of course all those inter-specie varieties who had traits of more than one species.

And not to forget those jitters we had before every exam and the jubilation we would experience on the last day of school before the vacation but only to start yearning to get back to school for its unique charisma.

I guess each one of us gets these nostalgic mood swings at least once in a blue moon. I treasure every moment I had in my school days [including the frequent lachrymal outbursts I would have on frivolous matters J] and I really thank God for those wonderful yester years and the friends he has given me.

awesome poem

school days r the best days of ur life

u just can't get enough of them

memories linger even long after u have left school

those idiotic fights , teasing, knw it all abt teachers, participating in competitions and those celebrations even if u won the third prize, those tears becoz u didn't get the prize even if u deserved it and did better than the other contestants, those catcher-catcher games, those b'day treats etc..................and not to forget the missing of classes on the pretext of taking part in annual day celebrations or any other celebrations.................

first in class batches, school captain batches, picnics, punishments, extra classes, not liking some teachers nd sirs, gossips, going to frnds houses who stayed at a walkable distance after school, eating those chanaas and bataanas and ice creams....................

enjoying the rare fights b/w teachers for their students, voting for class leader[representative], preparing for farewell of seniors and attending the farewell when u r seniors....................

the list goes on and on and on

a never ending list

and memories which u can cherish life long

hmmm a very well written poem! i still remember rechecking the answer paper again and again to check teh possibility of sneaking another grace mark. showing the report card with good and the excellent written on it and making the most out of it. talking about wild fantasies in the name of combined studies! those cycle races and getting into the mulberry garden of the school and managing to eat some and getting away from the gardner. hmmmm oh i wish i could go back in time and relive those moments!
how happy is he born and free,
who serveth not anothers will,
whose armour is his honest thought and,
simple truth his utmost skill..........

Nostalgia

We seem to be going through a period of nostalgia, and everyone seems to think yesterday was better than today. I don't think it was, and I would advise you not to wait ten years before admitting today was great. If you're hung up on nostalgia, pretend today is yesterday and just go out and have one hell of a time.

Duuddeee...I dont know what kind of a cyber genius you are but this was the last topic on which I would expect someone to plagiarise. Anyway, like all your other posts this too is plagiarised: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=We+seem+to+be+going+through+a+period+of+nostalgia%2C+and+everyone+

Though I have a total disgust towards plagiarists, I will credit you for being among the most apt of them. For even your replies are plagiarised- this definitely takes the art to a new level alltogether....I am waiting with baited breath for your next plagiarised post.

The genius original writer ,@Akshay dude even everything u have written can be found mind u each and everyword in one compilation (The oxford Dictionary).

And wht seems to be hurting u is my speed in getting those and apropriateness in using them ,since even u r trying to search the same things , and oops Cragg has already found them

And for the most knowledgeable aky a quote repeated in one of my earlier posts.

:) :) Your sarcasm is well appreciated..I have nowhere claimed greatness.. all i am saying is stop fooling people with uncredited copying...you obviously have no clue what plagiarism means. If you quote others that is fine as long as it is a well known quote or a single line or such. But quoting whole paragraphs verbatim without crediting is abhorable.

Cragg wrote:And wht seems to be hurting u is my speed in getting those and apropriateness in using them ,since even u r trying to search the same things , and oops Cragg has already found them

:) :) you DA reread my previous post, quoted below to super your speed even further...
Akshay wrote:Though I have a total disgust towards plagiarists, I will credit you for being among the most apt of them.

:? I was infact praising you for your genius in apt plagiarism. Have a positive outlook.

My disgust is for your act not for your means. My disgust is further accentuated by the fact that you continue the charade when others are clearly under the impression that the posts are genuinely yours. This is outrightly criminal.

Post count has never been my game so don't delude yourself with some competition between you and me. For unattributed quoting is beneath my idea of self respect.

Cragg wrote:And for the most knowledgeable aky a quote repeated in one of my earlier posts.

I dont disagree with that...your fault, which you glibly and gullibly fail to comprehend, lies in usurping the originality.

Cragg wrote:now dont say even this is pal**** since I am no fu**** philosopher to write these quotes nor do i have that much time.

:) I appreciate your humility.

Hard to ignore you when you shamelessly and dutifully plagiarise on each and every thread. Thanks for your suggestion regarding my time management. Valuable suggestions are always appreciated here.
