We have this masjid near our house, and soe others around here which is causing some controversy. Basically they are all TTS fellows, and they have some strange customs, although they call themselves Sunni Muslims (Sunni Wahaabi). Most of the people have stopped going there, but I am too laz and still pray there often.
They don't stand up during prayers immediately after iqamah is said, but wait until a specific portion of the iqamah is recited.
They have made it compulsary to wear topis. If somebody does not wear the topi, they will either bring a topi or scold him until he wears one. AND they want it immediately. Wont even wait for a second.
After the prayer, they have some different sort of dua, so some people get up and leave, but they are also scolded and asked to sit down.
Well there are two ways of looking at things.
- If you look at Wahabism from the inside it looks like you are right and the whole world is wrong. Wahabis call themslelves Salafis, the true followers of the Sunnah. They tend to follow the sunnah more strictly than the other Muslims. For example the wearing the CAP and the Saalam after the Namaz. They say that they have removed all the shrik that has seeped into Islam.
There is a lot of literature about Wahabism on the net, about how it started and how it came to be in India and how it is spreading in and around the world. I will stop myself here to not hurt peoples sentiments.
- If you look at it from the outside, it looks all wrong. In fact it looks dowright insulting to normal Sunni Muslims. But its a personal view. Some people also associate Wahabism with terrorism. The arguments are subjective.
They also leave the loud-speaker on during Fajr namaaz, and after the namaaz sing some naath. God knows how irritating this is for people who live around the masjid.
They say that they follow Sunnah, but if they follow sunnah, what are we all sipposed to be doing? This is all very irritating and people around the masjid generally think of muslims as troublemakers. Your comments?
Any sought of noise pollution how ever good the intention is pollution. Its annoying, irritating and spreads ill will.
There is no reason to use the loud-speaker during Namaz. I can understand using the loud speaker during the Azzan(Call for Namaz). Azzan lasts at the max for 5 mins. Thats cab be tolerated.
On the same lines there is no reason why Temples should use the loudest of the loud speakers to play a tape of Shlokas early in the morning for 2 Hrs. I can understand if someone is reciting the Shalokas and it is a special occasion, but the guy who manages the temple gets up early in the morning, plays the tape( the same tape every day )... while all the neighbouring residents have a disturbed sleep.
I dont think God would have wanted this. This is blatent and irritating GOD selling.

This doesnt bring people close to GOD, it only furthers them away from the TRUE message this is ture exhibitionism.
