it wouldn't make a difference, people will walk on the street regardless of a footpath. I've noticed this mentality in India "if cars and bikes can use the street, then why cant we?" People here drive their cars not like cars but like misguided missiles. People will stand if front of your car and act as if your SUPPOSED to go around them. I dont know if this is cause of the population or the lack of common sense, maybe both, but its very irritating.[/i]

haha! hawkers are in fact not much of a trouble. the real pains in the collective asses are the small temples n dargas on the footpath or the road side. the sentimental _ in public and politics dont allow them to be cleared.
