I had a strange experience today in Supreme music center .. I went to buy some cd's. After thoroughly scanning the aisles for the best CD's, I reached the counter for billing. While I was placing my cd's on the counter a Lady, say salma (I don't remember the real name.. she was wearing a burkha) hurried towards me and asked me if I had a cell phone. I said "yes". She asked if she can make a call from my phone., I said I don;t have much charge left(which is true ... really) . Then she said she will make a missed call from my phone.. I said I will dial the number and gave a missed call .. She kept insisting that she will call and was advancing towards me to take the phone. The lady at the cash counter started billing my stuff and was in kind of rush,,,and I was not paying my attention there as I was completely occupied by the rush from the salma . Anyway, I dialed number 9391360990 given by salma and in 2 minutes I received a call from (39123450). There was a guy speaking and I was not really following what he was saying.. but the call was definately not for me. I asked this lady what she wanted to say ... she said she was going to the hospital and has to convey that message.. I said on phone the same thing.. and again the guy asked who? salma ?? I turned towards this lady and asked if her name was salma.. she said yes.. I said yes on phone.. the guy asked which hospital,.. I relayed the answer "ent hospital" .. and after a few seconds pause, the guy said "theek hai" and disconnected the phone. All this while salma was bouncing towards me to get hold of the cell phone and I was trying to save it
.Well after the whole episode, I was feeling that I may have helped someone . but .my friend mentioned a few points which made me wonder..BTW, I have to mention that I came to the city after gap of 4 years.My friend is sure that they are cell phone thieves and I am almost convinced ..
1. Why did salma not go to a public phone and make that missed call ?
2. she could have asked anybody in the store, she asked me when I was busy with billing and paying and did not give me enough time to think .
3. What was she doing in the music store when she had to go to the hospital with the supposed urgent situation ?
4. How did the guy on phone know the call was from salma ?
The plan could be, she takes my phone,, and walk outside saying that there is no signal or noise or something,, someone could be waiting outside and both of them may takeoff.. This is a guesswork but there is a high possibility of the story being true.
I did not loose my cell phone, but I want to create awareness in people so that they can be careful ...did anybody else encounter similar incidents ?
