certainly it is going to have an impact if people be told that the amount of power that has been saved in terms of figures and then show them that it has a significant impact.

but then people should understand that thay can save power every day if only they are more alert and thus can keep contributing a lot as a group. This alertness that more power can be saved should be lasting.

its just not saving power, this event is to create aware ness about global warming to the public...
people will start thinking about global warming... and they start implementing things to reduce global warming in daily life...
i just want to list current changes...

1. did any one in the past see 40 degrees temperature continuosuly in the month of april.
2. raining at regular intervals in summer.
3. heat in rainy season.
4. ocean levels are raising

all these are results of global warming..

some of the main culprits are..
1. industries leaving toxic effluents in to air
2. Co2 etc emmisions from vehicles
3. cutting down of trees and decrease in forest lands..
4. polluting water by industries with toxic effluents.
5. unefficient and unnecessary usage of house hold appliances which consume lot of power and release lot of gases...
6. usage of plastic...

how can we control...

1. plant more and more trees start @ home...advantage... fresh air... no Fan or AC required leads to no power consumption..less power bill ultimately reducing global warming.
more plants means lesser CO2..
each tree absorbs 1 ton of CO2 in its life time...imagine what a forest can do..
2. leaving space for trees in apartments too while constructing...
3. rain water harvesting, having rain water pits at every home and apartments....
4. switching to eco-friendly and solar appliances...
5. use public transport systems where ever possible...
6. walk-bycycle for shorter distances stay healthy...
7. switch off all stand by appliances....
8. avoid usage of plastic use cloth bags... platic takes hell of a time to decompose....

Nice Idea.. We need our volunteers in those appartments to arrange for that. I hope the event in TV9 will prompt more people on the seriousness of Global warming..

In the meetings of appartments, I am happy if they made resolutions to save undesired power, save water.. and if they do some water harvesting assignments and doing some plantation in their compound..

I personally do not support Hyderabad Unplug for the way it is being organized.
