Infant Nail Care

Infant Nail Care

Trimming a wiggly baby's tiny fingernails and toenails can be an exercise in frustration -- and fear that you'll nick her sensitive skin with the clippers. But your newborn's fingernails should be trimmed about once a week, and her toenails once a month, to prevent her from scratching herself and others.

Ideally, the best time for baby's manicure and pedicure is after her bath. Baby's nails are softened from the bath, making them easy to cut. If your baby won't sit still, snip nails during naptime.

To keep nails neat and smooth, follow these simple tips: ...

Bridled Nail Tail Wallaby

Bridled Nail Tail Wallaby

The bridled nail tail wallaby populations need expanded by encouraging baby production and conservation programs to reestablish them in the wild. To improve their conservation status captive populations should be expanded and a new wild population established. Habitats suitable for this species is protected and monitored. In recent years about 1000 individuals were born and raised in captivity and in the sanctuaries. The bridled nail tail wallaby populations need expanded by encouraging baby production and conservation programs to reestablish them in the wild.

The majority of these animals disappeared in the early 1900, because sheep, cattle, and rabbits removed the vegetation and the habitats of this species were turned into farmlands. Predation of feral dogs and foxes added to the problem. Today, about 400 animals remain in national parks. The bridled nail tail wallaby populations need expanded by encouraging baby production and conservation programs to reestablish them in the wild. ...

How to Manicure Nails Naturally

by HH » Mon May 30, 2005 5:25 pm

How to Manicure Nails Naturally
Hands are one of our most expressive features that need to be moisturized and cared for to keep them looking their best. Often we spend personal time on your face and hair but don't think twice about the way that our hands look... could it be that our hands are our most neglected feature?

Make it up to your hands by pampering them with a manicure and a hot home-made cocoa butter treatment!

[i]Basic Manicure

Soak your hands in a bowl of warm water for 3 minutes and apply a tablespoon of heated moisturizer or home-made cocoa butter hand and nail treatment. Work the moisturizer into the base of each nail.

Use a small piece of soft cotton flannel or cuticle tool to gently push back your cuticles on each finger and thumb. Trim your nails and remove any jagged edges.

Massage a dab more of the butter into your hands and fingers one by one, working into the palm of your hand and up your wrist. If possible, have a partner perform the massage on your hands and fingers so you can relax.

Buff your nails with the flannel cloth or the buffered side of a nail file but be careful not to buff so hard that your nails burn. ...

Nail Trouble

by HH » Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:15 pm

Nail Trouble

SCIENTIFIC evidence shows that a number of people have problems with their nails. As many as 50 per cent of a given population suffers from one or more nail disorder. These include brittle nails, ingrowing toe nails, crush injuries and fungal infections.

Brittle Nails: Nails are composed of keratinised cells and are formed in the nail beds which are covered by epidermis. The most common cause of brittle nail is the frequent use of acetone based nail polish removers. Repeated contact with water containing cleaning fluids or detergents can also cause brittle nails.

Prevention: Avoid acetone based nail polish removers. Use standard detergents.

Treatment: Calcium and vitamin preparations neither strengthen such nails nor cure the problem.

Ingrowing Toenails: A common problem on the big toe. Happens when the nail grows into the skin. This evokes an inflammatory response, with swelling, redness and pain. There is also a risk of infection.

Prevention: Good nail care and hygiene. Wear correctly fitting shoes and socks.

Crushed Nails: If the nail is crushed, blood collects under it. This causes severe pain as a result of increased pressure.

Prevention: Take care of your fingers and toes while using doors, windows and weights.

Treatment: The simplest way is to make a hole in the nail with a sharp sterilised needle or a clean, sharp knife, so the blood can drain out. This procedure is painful. The nail should be protected with a plaster to reduce the risk of infection.

Untreated crush injuries are painful for a long time. Eventually the nail comes off which will affect day to day activity. A new nail grows within six weeks to three months.

Fungal Infections: Fungal infections are what affect nails most commonly. The infection causes a dull, yellowish discolouration of the nails, which thicken and tend to split. The infection initially affects the end or sides of the nail and then spreads inward until the entire nail plate is involved. A cheesy mass of disintegrating tissue forms under the nail.

Prevention: It is best never to borrow shoes or socks or walk barefoot in changing rooms, showers and saunas. The feet should always be dried as moisture promotes the spread of infection.

Treatment: Fungal infections are contagious, so good foot hygiene and nail care is important. Nails should be kept trim using a nail file. Severe cases are treated with specific anti-fungal agents.

Athlete's Foot: As the name suggests, this fungal infection is indeed prevalent among athletes. The infection usually begins between the toes, and is manifested by redness, peeling of the skin, and sometimes irritation. The fungus thrives particularly on moist skin.

Prevention: Good foot hygiene is important. The feet should be washed frequently and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes. Change socks frequently. Wear ventilated shoes.

Treatment: The feet should be washed twice a day with soap and water and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes. After washing, a fungicidal medication should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area. Treatment should be continued for upto four weeks after the skin appears to be clear, in order to prevent a relapse. If irritation is a problem, a combined preparation of a fungicidal agent and a steroid can be used for a while.

NAIL Talk!

A little professional help and time to soak it up is all it takes to have beautiful hands and feet

# YOU WOULD'VE surely noticed the beautiful hands and pretty nails of models on television and in magazines. How do you think they look so attractive? It's all thanks to a well-done manicure.

*
"You need good feet to wear good shoes and a good finger to sport a ring. People are more into grooming themselves these days and the demand for pedicure and manicure is picking up," says Manveen Kaur, Consultant Dermatologist of VLCC.

**
"The most common cause for soft nails is exposure to water. For bringing back the velvety look in a jiffy, we suggest a lemon cream massage and a rinse with warm water," says Sheela, a beautician. "Foot care not only improves personal appearance, it also adds to the comfort of the feet. Neglected toenails and rough harsh heels will show up even if you wear the finest footwear. A pedicure is essential once in a fortnight ," she adds.

# Check your diet to ensure you are getting the right amount of calcium through dairy products. Massage your hands at night with warm olive oil. Consume jelly to strengthen your nails. And, stop worrying about your hands. The next time around, your well-kept nails might spark off envy.

Feet Care : Step In With Ease And Style

Image

Your feet are subjected to more pressure and injury than any other part of the body. Here are some tips on maintaining good feet and posture.

MOST OF us neglect our feet, usually thinking that they are hidden from public view. But foot care is very important, not only for the appearance but also for health. Your feet are the pedestals of beauty. Your posture, figure, grace of movement — all depend upon your feet. The expression on your face, to a large extent, also depends upon your feet. You must have seen the look and strain of misery of people whose feet hurt.

The human foot has 52 bones and 214 ligaments. It is subject to more pressure and more injury than any other part of the body. It is also affected by a great variety of diseases, circulatory disorders, dermatitis and arthritis. Good foot posture helps to maintain the entire body balance.

When you stand or walk, the toes should point almost straight ahead. Lift the arches of the feet slightly so that your body weight is supported by the outside edges of the soles of your feet. Overweight people put excessive strain on the arches, resulting in aching feet and backache.

How To Cut Your Nails - With Your Nails

Yes, it is actually possible and I do it a lot myself ;) It is also very simple!
It's possible because the front of the nail is much sharper than the side.

The whole "cut" is depended on the first millimetre. You are to use an other nail (still on your finger) as a knife in order to "cut" a small opening in the side of the nail as described in fig.1 and fig.2. Remember not to cut to close to your finger, it will start to bleed and it does not feel that nice either.

When you've created a sort of crack in your nail, you simply continue the nail movement along the outer nailedge as described in fig.3. Be careful! If you "cut-out" your nail before you reach the other side it will be difficult to start over again. Your only option will then be to do it from the other side. That is harder.

Now, do this with all your nails except one on each hand. The point-finger-nails are recommended.
Then you cut one nail with the other. To cut the one that is on your main-hand is recommended.
Yes, the last nail is the hardest since you need to cut it with an already cut nail. A cut nail is not as sharp as an uncut one. But it's not impossible! The trick is to put the nail you are going to cut in your mouth and suck/lick on it. It gets much softer then and is easier to work with.

Now you've hopefully cut all your nails very nicely ;)
However, your nails may have a rough edge now. That is why you have jeans! Rub your nails along jeans-cloths.
Also, this works on the toe-nails as well ;)

In order to get your nails look really good (or even to cut them at all) you may need to practise these nail-cutting-moves a few times)

Off The Record, a punk rock outfit based in Southern California, is on the mark with unforgiving blend of metal and punk. Aggressive vocals, double leads accented by in-your-face drum lines drive this powerful machine forward. Following several years of independent touring, Off The Record just finished recording their debut album for Tooth and Nail Records with Bill Stevenson (Descendants/All), Stephen Egerton (Descendants/All,) and Jason Livermore (Wretch Like Me).
