I didn't know people were dead already in hyd :) [ Heaven is here ], anyways talking about traffic in hyderabad, I would agree people don't have sense here, so it is at most of the places but in other places you would see traffic police doing their job decently well, here I haven't seen police regulating the traffic, and if you are lucky someday and got hit by something [small or big] don't be surprised to see the other fellow shamelessly smiling at you .. as if nothing happened. Somany times I and IMFB lost our cool and went ahead and hit the other fellow, because of traffic violation and shameless smile ...

Yeah...I don't say I don't break rules and all...but most of the time...most of the time...it's a calculated risk that you can take to zig-zag thru. Of course i don't mind popping someone when they try and act smart-a$$ed.

I even remember one night (like 1-2 weeks ago) HP and I were going to pick up a friend in Banjara Hills, and a transport auto popped a crazy-a$$ed u-turn right in front of me. I gave him the finger and kept goin gon my way. HP was behind me by like 20 feet and that atuo was trying to say something to me. HP and I both stopped and I was gonna kick some butt. Asked him what the heck he was doing driving like and and he had the balls to say that he looked before turning. That blew my top and I seriously tried to pull him out of the atuo to beat the crap outta him.

There's the flip side too though. I was going the wrong way once and a car was trying to make a u-turn and I was obviously blocking him so I said sorry (trying to be polite and all since I was in the wrong ) and he wanted to start a fight with me. I was like wtf!!!! I was saying sorry and giving him the right of way and until he rolled down the window to listen to me he was kinda pissy....then he changed face.

Point of all this is take risks but calculate it...and if ur bad at math...then kick some a$$

There are worser Jams in Mumbai,Delhi & even in Bangalore.

Just that the Traffic management here needs tuning up.
Asu experienced,a few individuals mar the entire driving experience.
And No true-Blue Indin will drive in the demarcated lane until he is a

Maybe it is due to the laidback attitude of the law-enforcers here.

I remember while in bang,i was fined 500 bucks for "Touching"
the Yellow line at a red light. But here in hyd,No cop cares abt it
Who cares about Jams man.Jams are there in the best of the best cities,we cant do anything. But in Hyd,people just ignore all the rules.Dont think that I am a snobby NRI,I am not,its just the truth.People just abuse on the roads and cut the lanes whenever they want.Even then,I love driving in Hyd.There is soo much freedom on the roads,I can cut the lanes whenever I want, take shortcuts whenever I want(Saying this, till date I have never broke a driving rule ever, maybe just Underage Driving :P),the driving experience is really different.I drive in the States, maybe its safer in US but there is no fun at all,fun is in Hyd.I truly enjoy driving in Hyd. :D

Another thing is that (depending on which bike), bikes usually attain their maximum speed much faster than cars (and other slower bikes), hence the horn-blasting to get them to move outta the way.

Now their is some ettiquitte involved: you can cross over to the other side of the road as long as there is plenty of space for you to go thru and not interfere with oncoming traffic but I've seen (a lot) of people who don't have that space and expect the other people to move for them. They pi$s me off and I don't mind letting them know it. I get back to my point of calculative risks. If there is enough space for you to go on the other side of traffic without interfering, people will let you and don't usually say anything. It's only when there isn't that everything hits the fan!

Well POV are different from person to person. But if you had read further into the ettiqitte side, if there's enough space (and i'm not talking about space for a mouse) but honestly enuff space for your car and their car to go thru, who's gonna say anything.

Also, if you're in the fast lane then try and follow that at least. My general rule is if ur honking and you can go faster than me, then by all means...please do (and i'll let them pass) and would expect the same. I don't want to hold back traffic..why do you? (

Gosh, the mention of traffic alone makes people so excited...IMFB can barely hold back his galis...

My two... er three cents:

1. Hyderabad trafiic sucks but so do Bangalore's, so no use changing cities to avoid traffic. 8)

2. Traffic in Mumbai does clog up roads and force most people to use the lcoal trains as means of faster travel, but, even then, people follows rules. In fact, Mumbai is one of the few cities where poeple queue up for a bus, try doing that in Hyderabad now!!!!

3. Moving out of a city just because of the trafiic is one of the worst excuses I have ever come across... :P Come now Jatt, the traffic cannot be that bad to force someone out of a city, or maybe you need to move to US and drive safely,as Jacko says... :)

Did someone say Bangalore's traffic is better? Hell, no! The roads are choked at most times and the jams will become legendary.

But yeah have to admit that people don't really follow traffic rules in Hyd. When I'd ride and wait patiently at a signal, I'd have bus drivers behind me honking. There were times when I deliberately ignored them but yeah we, Hyderabadis have a lot of learning to do in that dept.
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right.

Well I don't remember the dogs barking horn but yes...they do just smile. It's not just other cars or bikes but ppl on the roads as well. I was on my way to work today and there was a guy pushing that nimbo soda trolley and all of a sudden he decides to push it across the road and not just across the road but a u-turn kinda on the road. I happened to see that and expected him to do something stupid and I was honking my horn quite a wayz before and had I not stopped I would have ran into that nimbo soda trolley. I yelled at him and all he did was smile (even after giving some juicy gaalis).

I have been away for quite a while now but i rememebr the hopelessness of the traffic in hyderabad..sometimes I just used to walk from ameerpet to abids instead of waiting for a bus...walkin and talkin to myself...that was me.

To quote one of our mangers curently in bangalore..(the favored city in this thread) " bangalore is such an insult to civilization!!" Now this guy is a 70 yr old cranky brit and he was in hyderabad for a week in april, looking for suppliers...that means a lot of travelling. His opinion was that hyderabad was slightly better. Another incident invovles one of our directors..lived 25 years in bangalore...has gone there thrice in two years and got sick everytime due to sulphur poisoning....

coming to the point, I wouldn't give a thumbs up to bangalore either..its gonna be shitty in most Indian cities now that we are growing at a fair clip. The challenge is how well will the people deal with the pollutiona nd congestion and loss of vegetation. How active are citizens groups going to be in deciding who gets elected to the various city councils...How effectively are we going to lobby for better standards of implementation?

I don't how buttery smooth traffic in bangalore or any of the SHEBANG places in India is but ive been driving in the US for 5 years and I have had the unneeded pleasure of being stuck grid lock in every damn city i've been to.
