thats well said kavita...esp. the point abt. lanes. the sheer variety of vehicles moving arnd. in the citry makes it difficult to b implemented. but i have seen car drivers sticking to there lanes even when the othe side of the road was empty. I guess the change is seeping in slowly but surely.

My opinion on this topic:

First thing I would like to tell them is: You have come to a different place, do not expect things to be as they used to be in your place.

Secondly, I travelled in gallis and thin lanes too. Everyday traffic there comprises of two wheelers, tractors, vegitable bandi vala, etc. I find it quite amazing how they manage without any problems. The show patience and give way to others, if some one is in a hurry they are allowed to go first, if someones bike is parked and is obstructing some ones way, he comes out and moves it aside till the bandi vala or who ever it is goes and then parks it agian. They take care not to park in such a way but space cruch makes it inevitable. And children play on these roads too. Till now I havent see a single accident or argument or any thing of this sort.

How come all this happens mostly only on main roads?

Thirdly, pleaseeeeeee dont bring in the lanes concept. I stongly feel it doesnt suit our traffic. Atleast it needs modification if we have to go for it. I do not understand how a lane concept will suit for a Car, Auto, Rikshaw, Bicycle, , Bullockcart, pedestriants. Can any one of you explan this to me? I feel its another area where we are importing American ideas.

Well

I think there are 2 aspects of it, PLannig of roads and traffic.

initially when you plan a city or layout , had our ancestor had future vision , they wud have layed straight roads not narrow sneaking gullies.

Second if you have properly planned roads I bet planned traffic , implementing lanes system for slow fast and medium moving vehichles solves many probs.

I dont know if you have visited any other big cities, like chennai or bombay, you will find most of the roads to be straight.

Above all a resp citizen of a city onus on us to drive adhere to signals and maitaining lanes etc and awareness among people makes many things easy. I find many educated brutes dont even care signal in HYD, just bcoz others jump lanes and signals we also stat jumping.

I hope atleast you/we dont do that.

I see basically hyd lacks proper planning and also POlice is not at all strict in impl.there are no enough subways/overbridges where people can corss roads safely, so they walk on roads(no road dividersto stop pedestr...)you have to sneak thru people while driving.

Just comapre lane crossing in MG road (Blore)or going in wrong lane Mount road(Chennai) and with that of SD road(Sec bad) , heaven to hell dfference.

I repaeat we educated resp citizens can make out traffic better atleast by some extent.

Implementing speed based lanes aint diffycult, we have that from Lifestyle thru Paradise, its there on many other roads too. They have left most lane for 4Ws and right most lane for Bus, and others run in between. But the problem is no one really cares in which lane they are, they just want to move in general direction of their destiny.

Unbelievable, how come it never happened to me.

if someones bike is parked and is obstructing some ones way, he comes out and moves it aside till the bandi vala or who ever it is goes and then parks it agian.

In same place ? in that case he will be standing next to his bike all the time. I find abandoned bikes on the road, even near Ameerpet circle in front of shops, traffic will be jammed and still the blocking bike owner does not appear from nowhere.

They take care not to park in such a way but space cruch makes it inevitable.

thats where the traffic is I guess.

Thats one crazy road. During peak hours its the warast place u can b at. I guess its mainly becoz of the roads that become narrow at certain points, like near pantaloon, which ends up clogging the road and jamming the traffic till begumpet flyover...

You got that wrong. The right most lanes is for the four wheelers.

what i guess is the population of hyd is increased very much and is very diffucult to go from ameerpet in evening and the traffic is very much and to reach our destiny it takes at least half hour to cross amerpet and the road so small that is the problem i think the traffic police should look after it :x

I disagree with Kavita there. Just because something's been the way it is doesn't mean that we keep it the same way. That's nothing but inertia. And I don't agree with the statement that the lane system doesn't suit our traffic. When it can work in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc., why not in Hyderabad?

And all the talk about people being co-operative in gallis etc., well, if you're taking pride in what you described, think again. What you described there is utter chaos, with no one responsible and accountable. People doing as they please. If you bring over the same system onto main roads, I bet I'll never venture out of home at all. The idea is kinda scary.

Well, the thread is about traffic, no doubt, but after coming to hyderabad, I have found people doing certain things, which at other places would have been frowned upon or else would have started a fight.

These are very simple things like:

1. Breaking a queue - I have noticed this specifically in movie halls, railway stations and parks.

2. Parking their car in other people's parking slots in a building or parking at places which doesn't allow other vehicles to pass through

3. Spitting out pan juice at all places and also at people - my new off-white trousers were spoilt permanently when someone did this while passing me in a auto. someday I'll start a how to remove stains thread

4. Staring non-stop at people even wehn the otehr person stares back to inform you that he/she has noticed it.

5. Ignoring red lights - it si ironically funny sometimes, if you stop at a red light, your car might be rammed into by the vehicles behind you.

6. Nothing getting done on time - whether it is the tailor, or teh carpenter or even the authorised repairing people, no one sticks to their commitments.

These might have taken place at other cities ocassionally too but here in Hyderabad what differs is the response - people just shrug it off.

Still as kavita says, 'you have come to a different place', so i am slowly trying to take it in my stride, and who knows, some years down the line, i'll be doing the same thing or my kids will pick up those habits for survival. 8)

No offense meant to anyone in person. I somehow find it very saddening that Hyderabadis have this typical habit of defending themselves in such matters in the name of "laidback attitude" and "nawabi culture".

I know man. Most of the threads use that defense. After a while it become irritating that we cant think of anything else for a proper defence other then those 2 phrases.

I believe Hyd will change, but at its own pace (cant comapre one city to another). There are several things that need to b changed here, and most of them have been mentioned in the above posts. My point is, that it may not happen at the same speed as we may want it to. Majority of the people jump traffic signals, spit wherever they wnat too...and so on. I am sure the things are only going to get better here.

What abt introducing "Traffic Education" in 10+2 cirriculum. We can start a petition and submit it to the concerned Minister. (Higher edu/Transport).

Hyd Traffic Is Plain Shit

by Sanju » Mon Aug 08, 2005 1:12 am

The main problems here have been listed out.

1)Badly planned roads-No footpaths/pavements,full of potholes,

2)Callous attitude of people.People here don't care for their lives or others.Pedestrains cross roads acc. to their instincts.

I nearly missed one grave accident .On the way to Hitech city(at 50kmph) the car in front of me had to sudenly brake in order not to kill the idiot crossing the road and I rammed into the car ahead. But luckily my brakes were working fine and nothing serious happened.(I was also maintaining gud distance from the car).

3)The entire fee structure of collecting fines.

People think they can get away with nething after paying a fine

Breaking a NO ENTRY sign-300 Rs.

The police officer asks for 50 to get off.

What wud he do if the fine were for Rs.50???

I also find Hyderabadi people to be always in a hurry to go somewhere even whenthey ain't .

Some attitude just got set in that its bad to wait at traffic signals and

its near to suicide to slow down at junctions with those SLOW signs.
